Welcome to the Nursery Homepage
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Bollin Nursery.
It has been a pleasure meeting you all and getting to know your children. We are pleased to say that they are gradually settling into Nursery we understand it is a big step for many children. If you are concerned with your child settling in please see Mrs Bailey or Miss Eccles for strategies to ease your child in gently. The start of a session is a bit busy at the moment with our full attention being given to the children; for this reason we are usually free for a quick chat at the end of a session, should you need to see us.
We have two teaching assistants that are also available to assist you and they are Mrs Buchanan in the mornings and Mrs Ardern in the afternoons. The nursery door is opened at 8.45 and 12.15 when our busy and exciting day can start!
Reminders, Routines and Dates for your Diary
- We will soon issue your child with a library book. Please ensure that your child returns their book each week and we will let you know what day will best fit into our busy week.
- Please could all children have a change of clothes in a bag on their peg. If they have borrowed any items of school clothing please wash and return these as soon as possible.
- If it is your child’s birthday we ask that you do not bring sweets or a cake but provide a class storybook for everyone to share.
- We are all practising fastening coats and would be grateful if you could practise this at home.
- Later this term there will be the PTA disco and the nursery children are welcome to join us.
- Remember £1 a week towards our Foundation Stage Fund if you can.
- Thank you to those parents who have already contributed a pack of Kandoo’s. Others will also be received with gratitude!
- Please can you take home wash and refill water bottles daily, Water only please!
- We would love to hear all about any news or special interests your child has, please use the show me show me tray and watch this space for WOW books. We would love to be able to plan some activities based on the children’s common interests.
- Don’t forget to check emails for whole school new letters and Nursery sends a paper one out each week, if you don’t receive one please let us know, we are happy to hand out notes to help you organise parent get together’s and for organising the children’s busy social calendar!
Foundation Stage Curriculum.
This term we will be looking at the topic of Ourselves, and after half term, Festivals. The following is a brief overview of the subjects that will be taught this term. Please remember that your child is different from others in the class and all children have varied abilities and can excel in specific areas. They are therefore treated individually at school. At home, please keep learning experiences fun and through play and only complete activities if your child is willing: if it is play based they will be learning without realising it!
Personal and Social Development.
We will be focusing this term on settling into school, sharing and taking turns, becoming independent and most importantly making friends. We also place a high emphasis on good manners not interrupting and please, thank you and excuse me, go a long way. We encourage the children to be gentle, one of our nursery rules is “keep your hands and feet to yourselves!”
Communication Language and Literacy.
We will begin teaching the children to recognise their names and the letter sounds in their names. Also we shall be teaching the children speaking and listening skills, and an appreciation of stories, rhymes and poems. Listening skills are key and we play lots of games to encourage this.
Problem Solving Reasoning and Numeracy
We will be looking at shapes, numbers to 10, counting, patterns, jigsaws, matching and sorting skills.
Creative Development.
We will be painting, using scissors, singing, dancing and creating surprises for you along the way!
Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
Our focus will be on naming body parts and thinking about how to keep ourselves healthy. We will be looking at seasonal changes associated with autumn and winter, and celebrations and festivals within this time period.
Physical development
We will practice different ways of moving on our different body parts. Beginning to cut with scissors, manipulating play dough and tools, holding a pencil and a paint brush, using the outdoor play equipment such as the bikes and climbing frame.
Often, a child’s answer to “did you have a good day at school today?” or “what did you do?” is that they just played! Rest assured, playing is the best way to learn when you are 3 and 4 year’s old. So here’s to happy educational playing and learning! We hope that you and your children enjoy the rest of this term!
Many thanks
Mrs Bailey, Miss Eccles, Mrs Ardern and Mrs Buchanan!
