Mrs. Marilyn Downs - Headteacher
I have been Headteacher at The Bollin Primary School since 1994. Time just seems to fly past when you’re busy and having fun!
I thoroughly enjoy my work and spend a lot of my time involved with the many different aspects of school life.
When not at school, I can be found walking along beaches in Anglesey or skiing down mountains in America – I enjoy outdoor activities and I am passionate about caring for our environment. In quieter moments, I enjoy playing the piano, reading, gardening and cooking meals to share with family and friends.
Isabel Brown: Nursery
Lisa Bailey: Nursery
Mrs. Sarah Odell: Reception Tatton
Mrs Odell teaches Reception Class Tatton and co-ordinates the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception Classes).
She loves going on holiday and relaxing with her friends and family. She is a founder member of FC United of Manchester and spends her free time supporting the team. Mrs Odell would one day love to visit Austrailia and explore the other side of the world.
Miss Sam Kirk: Reception Dunham
Miss Kirk teaches Reception Class Dunham. She is keen to help the school to promote its Eco-Status. She is very enthusiastic and enjoys the rewarding job of working in the Foundation Stage. In her spare time Miss Kirk likes to relax with friends and family and visit new places.
Mr Nick Liddell: Year 1 Dunham
As a new recruit to The Bollin, and having swapped the football pitch for the classroom 'pitch', I feel privileged to be able to teach young children. Having trained, and taught, in Early Years at Manchester University I have a great passion for all aspects of early childhood development. I particularly enjoy the satisfaction of teaching young children, seeing how they become increasingly independent and watching their life skills develop.
Outside of school I love to sleep!! When I’m not resting I love playing cricket! Some might say I am competitive but possess an 'essential' sense of humor; I just like to enjoy all that I do.....whilst winning!
Miss Jacqui-Hammond: Year 1 Tatton
Miss Jacqui Hammond teaches Year 1. This is her fifth year of teaching. Last year
she taught in America but previous to that all her teaching has been done at the Bollin in Key Stage 2.
Miss Hammond enjoys working with children and watching them succeed and thrive. Out of school
she enjoys keeping fit and regularly attends the gym. She also enjoys dancing – line dancing and salsa.
Miss Hammond gets married next year so at the moment she am spending lots of time organising a wedding!
Mrs Helen Edwards: Year 2 Tatton
Mrs Edwards adores the rewarding job of teaching. Each day holds new challenges and
every day the children will do or say something to make her smile and laugh!
She likes to see the children develop in confidence and self belief. Mrs Edwards likes to look at the first
piece of work a child does at the start of the academic year and watch the huge amount of progress made along the way!
Mrs Edwards loves swimming, cycling and being outdoors. Her other interests are art and music.
When she has the time she enjoys painting and being creative!
Mrs. Vicki Watson: Year 2 Dunham
Mrs Watson came back to teaching after 20 years in the commercial world and thinks it’s the best decision she ever made.
She has been at The Bollin for 7 years and says the children give her a fresh perspective on life every day.
Known for her love of cats, Mrs Watson is also a keen golfer, an avid football fan and enjoys spending time with her
family in Europe during the holidays.
Mr. Adam Gifford: Year 3
Mr Gifford has travelled a long way to be part of the Bollin. Originally from New Zealand, he is now well and truly settled here with his wife and two children. He loves teaching and he has a particular interest in Numeracy. Mr Gifford takes every opportunity to get into the outdoors and his garden. He usually has a smile on his face…just don’t mention the last Rugby World Cup!
Mrs. Lynne Manifould: Year 4 – Deputy Headteacher
My favourite pastime at the moment is my Nintendo DS BrainTrainer – I’m trying to get my brain age down to 20 but I haven’t managed it yet – I think I must have a faulty machine!
I enjoy most sports but my favourite has to be netball. I stopped playing last year but I am missing the thrill of the game and just might go back…
However, my favourite activity of all (apart from teaching Year 4!) has to be soaking up the sun, slapping on the suncream and turning over the page of another good book!

Miss Hayley Marshall: Year 5
It’s so lovely to be part of The Bollin team and I’m really excited about being the Year
5 teacher.
I work hard and expect the children in my class to do the same. I especially enjoy using drama to support and enhance learning, and had a reputation at my previous school for my passion for poetry and ability to put new lyrics to familiar tunes for the children to sing along to. ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen was a particular favourite and maybe the children at The Bollin will be able to learn it too!! I am particularly keen to keep all children fit, active and healthy and reap the benefits of PE and School Sport.
When I’m not at school I’m usually very busy with my two boys who are now both at secondary school. I support Manchester City and regularly watch Sale Sharks playing rugby; even ventured to Old Trafford this summer to watch England and Lancashire playing cricket. I love spending time on a beach, cycling along the canals and walking in the hills; especially when the sun is shining.
Miss Jenni Anderton: Year 6
Miss Anderton is the newest member to the Bollin team! She loves the outdoors and enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking and listening to music.
Mrs. Nicola Grimshaw
I started teaching in 1989 and have had experience with most age ranges in Primary School.
I have really enjoyed my time at The Bollin, working on a part-time basis as a support teacher in Key Stage 2 since January 2008. In my spare time I like to do yoga, go to the theatre and cinema and eat out, plus acting as a taxi driver for my three children!
Mrs. Steph Cosgrove: Support Teacher
I have worked at The Bollin Primary School as a part time support teacher for over six years now and I have the opportunity to work with all the children at school, which I find very rewarding. I particularly enjoy teaching gymnastics and creative arts such as design technology – and I am responsible for many of the displays of children’s work that you see around the school building! I enjoy making our school an attractive and colourful learning environment and, as a teacher governor, contributing to the wider aspects of developing our school community.
Mrs. Olivia Robinson: Support Teacher – Music
I have been a teacher for nearly 20 years working in the South, the Midlands and the North West. Having been at the chalk face for much of that time in upper juniors I moved into music specialism about 5 years ago. I teach at the Bollin and another local Primary School and work with all the children from Nursery through to Year 6 which is great fun! I have been at the Bollin for almost 9 years and have been involved with many wonderful performances and taught many fantastic children. My youngest child is in Year 5 and I have always felt delighted and lucky that he has had the chance to experience all the wonderful opportunites this school has to offer.
Mrs. Barbara Littlewood: School Secretary
I have been working at the Bollin since 2001, initially on a part-time basis.
In October 2005, I became a full time member of staff responsible for the efficient running of the School Office.
I absolutely love my job, there is such a variety of work and there are never two days the same at the Bollin. Time flies when you are having fun!
I have two children and as a family we enjoy skiing holidays in the winter and camping holidays in the summer. We also enjoy walking, especially in the Peak District. I am a keen jogger and play various racquet sports in my spare time.
Mrs. Rebecca Quealy: School Secretary
My three children all attend the Bollin. When my youngest joined the Nursery it was my opportunity to return to work and I work part time in the school office. In my spare time I enjoy golf, squash and family life.
Mrs. Karen Weightman: Learning Support Assistant
My role within school is that of Learning Support Assistant, providing specific support additional to that provided within the classroom.
I started work at the Bollin in May 1994 making it 14 years this year and I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute of my time here. I have provided support in the Reception Class for many years and various other year groups throughout school.
I have always had an interest in children with learning difficulties and for 12 years now have given extra support to those children who needed it from Reception through to Year 6. Each year I accompany the Year 6 on their residential trip to the Isle of Man.
I am also the designated SEN Governor for the school and the designated First Aider.
Mrs. Jane Runnett: Teaching Assistant
I’ve worked at the Bollin for around 7 years starting with Bollin Extend, working in the breakfast and after school club and then I started working within the school as a classroom assistant. I have two children who have attended the Bollin and both children enjoyed the school. In my spare time I enjoy walking in the Lake District and I am looking forward to retiring there when I win the Lottery!
Mrs. Julie Dean: Teaching Assistant
I am currently working as a Teaching Assistant in Reception Class. I have been associated with the Bollin for 22 years, firstly as a parent of 4 children all of whom attended the Bollin, volunteering on a regular basis and then succumbing too much persuasion and becoming a Nursery Nurse. Out of school I enjoy reading, cross-stitch, crochet and time spent with my family.
Mrs. Maureen Kirk: Teaching Assistant
I am a very flexible Teaching Assistant currently working in Nursery and Year 1. I have worked at the Bollin for over 10 years and I really enjoy my job and I am always busy. I love the variety each day brings. Along with family life I enjoy travelling and the open space when walking in the countryside and along our coastline. When at home I enjoy time in the garden and being creative.
Mrs. Sue Buchanan: Teaching Assistant
I am a classroom assistant and have worked at the Bollin for almost seven years. I came as an NNEB Student and was very pleased to be offered a position to stay on. I am currently working in the Nursery where my son was one of the first children when the class first opened in 1992. I enjoy reading, music and watching Sale Sharks.
Mrs. Linda Warbrick: Teaching Assistant
I have been working at the Bollin since 2002 as a Classroom Assistant in KS1 and KS2. My three children all attended the Bollin School and they have all benefittted from the caring, community atmosphere of the school. In my spare time I enjoy gardening.
Mrs. Julie Corker: Teaching Assistant
I came to the Bollin Primary School in 2004, supporting individual children with Special Educational Needs.
Since then I have joined the Bollin ‘team’ and have worked in all classes from the Foundation Stages up to Y6.
I am enjoying at present supporting children with Special Educational Needs and covering Foundation PPA time –
with SEAL and beginners French.
I also support children with numeracy. I have recently achieved my HLTA
(Higher Level Teaching Assistant award) and finished my Foundation degree in Teaching & Support.
